Description, Benefits, Dosage, Side Effects, Ingredients (Composition)
Ranbaxy Volitra Gel (Diclofenac, Linseed Oil, Menthol, Methyl Salicylate and Capsaicin Gel) contains the active ingredient diclofenac sodium, chemically diclofenac sodium is designated as 2-[(2, 6-dichlorophenyl) amino] benzeneacetic acid , monosodium salt. The molecular weight is 318.14. Its molecular formula is C14H10C12NNaO2 .

Linseed Oil contains predominantly essential fatty acid Linolenic acid. Linolenic acid acts as a prostaglandin precursor. Linolenic acid gets converted to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). EPA is acted upon by cyclo-oxygenase enzyme to produce Prostaglandin E3, which is a weak inflammatory agent. Presence of EPA prevents the action of cyclo-oxygenase on arachidonic acid, which reduces its conversion to PGE, (a highly inflammatory agent.) Presence of PGE, itself modulates the inflammatory response through a feedback mechanism.

Menthol when applied to the skin dilates the blood vessels causing a sensation of coldness and analgesia. In addition it also helps to relieve itching and is used prutritus and urticaria.

Methyl salicylate is a counter-irritant, which is chemically designated as 2-hydrobenzoic acid methyl ester. Its molecular formula is C8H8O3 and molecular weight is 152.15.

Capsaicin exerts an analgesic action its precise mechanism is not fully understood, current evidence suggests that capsaicin when applied renders skin insensitive to pain by depleting and preventing reaccumulation of substance P in peripheral sensory neurons. Substance P is thought to be the principal chemomediator of pain impulses from the periphery to the CNS
